A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Hands of the Colossus is a singleplayer splitscreen puzzle platformer that puts your hand-eye coordination to the test. As a tiny and nimble dude with a bucket hat, you navigate challenging environments in first-person, relying on the immense power of a towering Colossus. While the Colossus moves slowly, its massive hands are essential tools - helping you reach hidden platforms, trigger mechanisms and collect coins.

The Jam:

The game was made for GMTK Game Jam 2024 in 96 hours by two dudes with no previous Godot experience. The topic of this Game Jam was "Built to Scale". Our idea to match the theme was to create interactions between a massive player (the Colossus) and a tiny player to solve puzzles and clear levels.

Code:

The project is open-source and can be found here

Controls:

The game can be played with mouse and keyboard, as well as with controller. At the beginning, you start with only the tiny player. By progressing in the first level, the game it will become splitscreen.

You can switch between which of the players you control by either pressing the TAB key or the top button on your controller.

You can use WASD or the left joystick to move both players.

You can use the mouse or the right joystick to move the camera.

On the small player, you can use SHIFT or press your left joystick to sprint, and SPACE or the action button to jump.

On the colossus, you can press and hold either the left or right mouse button or the left or right bumpers on the controller to control the hands. You can move them by moving the mouse or the left joystick. You can control their vertical position by using the mouse wheel or the right joystick.

You can reset the current level by pressing BACKSPACE or the select key on the controller.

We hope you like it!

Install instructions

Windows

Download the .zip file and extract it by right clicking the file. Then execute the "HandsOfTheColossus.exe". If Windows Defender complains, you can click on "More Information" to execute it anyway.

Linux

Download the "tar.gz" file, extract it and run the "HandsOfTheColossus.sh" file.

Steam Deck:

On Steam Deck, please start the game in Game mode.

To do that, switch your Steam Deck to desktop mode by holding your power button for a few seconds and select "Switch to Desktop". After that download the "*_SteamDeck*.tar.gz" and extract it.

Open Steam from the task bar and select "Add a game" -> "Add a Non-Steam Game...". In the following dialog select the "HandsOfTheColossus.sh" file. You can now switch back to gaming mode from your desktop (or by restarting your Deck) and start the game by searching for it.

Mac

Download the .zip file and double click it to open it. Then execute the app file. If it is blocked by the system, you have to go to your system settings then to the "Security" tab, and scroll down until you see the warning that it was blocked. There you can say that you want to open it anyway.

 Enjoy!
